Animal brains were not designed by engineers, but are the outcome of millions of years of evolution. Studying their history may help understanding their stunning complexity. 

The Tosches lab takes an evolutionary approach to unveil general principles of brain organization and function in vertebrates.

To do this, we use genetic, genomic, developmental and neurobiological approaches to investigate cell types and neural circuits in poorly-studied vertebrate species.
